Patient Safety: Are You Part of The Problem?

Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy‘s March training event to combat medical error.

On March 27th and 28th 2025 Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy will hold its annual “Family-Centered Patient Advocacy” patient safety training for the public, including caregivers, professional patient advocates and healthcare professionals. The 2-day event will take place in Plainview, NY.

The 2024 Graduating Class

A Johns Hopkins study reports that medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States. While healthcare providers are trained in patient safety policy and procedures, the public is not. Yet there is much that individuals — patients and those supporting them — can do to reduce the risk of accidental harm from medical treatment.

Since 1996 Pulse Center for Patient Safety has been the national leader in educating the public in patient safety and patient advocacy skills.

Just a few of the speakers:

  • Kristen Miller, DrPH, MSPH, MSL, CPPS. Kristen is the Co-Director of the MedStar Health Center for Diagnostic Systems Safety, Senior Scientific Director of the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare.

  • Wayne A. Murphy RRT-NPS, MPS Field Director, U.S. Consulting, Joint Commission Resources

Helen Haskell, MA, President, Mothers Against Medical Error. Helen sits on boards of directors of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, on the board of advisors of the International Society for Rapid Response Systems, and is co-chair of the World Health Organization’s Patients for Patient Safety advisory group.
